Society for Awareness of Nature's Development (SAND) in its essence is truly rural as it derives inspiration from the villages and devises solutions for their problems. It helps them to focus on their economic and development needs and encourages them to tap local resources that open up new avenues to self- reliance. Apart from this we also work to create environment related awareness and help as consultant to various NGO's, consultancy groups and state departments in research and advocacy, based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The Society is registered as a not-for-profit organization under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. SAND was created with the objective of involving local communities in the planning of development issues whether of environment, governance and social development. Along with conducting extensive research programs, SAND has been deeply engaged in conceptualizing and implementing sustainable solutions at the grassroots level and mobilizing the communities. SAND has three main focus areas: Environmental Conservation (Awareness, Waste Management and Eco tourism), Livelihood & Capabilities Development, and Data Gathering & Analysis.
