Social Advancement for People's Liberation Agency (SAPLA)

Background: After liberation & subsequent decade Bangladesh faces many political and social adversities when natural calamities (flood, cyclone, drought, etc.) also stroked repeatedly; numerous crises captured the whole country and illiterate-poor people were the main victims of those circumstances. Natore district was seriously affected by that socio-economic panic with hunger & poverty; government failed to control the situation. The opportunists and money-lenders took chance of vulnerabilities; they started exploiting the illiterate-poor by lending money with high interest rate (25% per month). As a result, destitution, landless-poor and marginalization increased up to 80% out of total population in that area; socio-political and cultural situation had also declined seriously. Perceiving terrible situation of locality, few committed, energetic & courageous young men came forward with their limited resources and formed this Social Advancement for People’s Liberation Agency (SAPLA– initially named KGUK). Vision: The vision and core believes of SAPLA is Total (Spiritual, Mental, Social and Physical) Human Development and rendering services to the poor and marginalized people for establishment of social justice & freedom towards sustainable progress. Mission: The main mission of SAPLA is Formation of people’s organization through awareness building and socio-economic empowerment in order to attain self-reliance by socio-cultural-political and economical development activities. Nature & character: It is a non- profitable and Non–political Development Organization. Core Values: • Total (Physical, Mental and Spiritual) Human Development. • Love for Humanity. • Service to the needy. Priorities: • Poor and the poorest people. • Human values and dignity. • Socio-economic and Cultural Development. • Community Participation. • Team Working. • Priority to the poor landless, marginal men & women, children including disabled and Indigenous (Adivasis) people etc.
