Welcome to Sascan! We are a start-up company incubated at the TIMed, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST), BMT Wing, Thiruvananthapuram, India. At Sascan we are developing affordable optical imaging technologies that can detect pre-cancerous changes in squamous epithelial tissues of the oral cavity and cervix. With support from BIRAC (BIG Scheme), Karnataka Startup Mission (Elevate100), Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), INVENT Scheme (KIIT-TBI), NIDHI SSS (TIMED-SCTIMST) and Unicorn India Ventures, we have developed a hand-held bimodal imaging device - OralScan -that is transforming the way cancers of the oral cavity are diagnosed and treated.
Our mission is to develop affordable devices for oral and cervical cancer screening and to create a societal impact by making possible to detect cancer accurately during its early stages.
OralScan :- A handheld multi-spectral imaging camera that is so sensitive that it can detect oral precancers without the need for tissue biopsy. This intra-oral screening camera can be inserted into the mouth of a patient to locate early lesions in real-time, using an algorithm. This portable device can store images in its internal memory or on the cloud and make cancer screening as easy and painless as taking a picture.
CerviScan:- This bimodal imaging camera detects morphological and biochemical changes in cervical tissues with improved diagnostic accuracy as compared conventional techniques such as Pap smear or a coloposcopy (VIA and VILI) examination.
Both these devices will help in identifying the optimal site for biopsy, thereby avoiding under-diagnosis, and patient trauma.
Sascan is a part of India's prominent Social Impact Accelerator program, AISEA.
Sascan's flagship product OralScan has won the National Startup India Award 2021,the Pharma & Medical Devices Startup India Grand Challenge 2021 and the Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award 2021.
