Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering

In 2002, Syed Babar Ali began floating the idea of a science and technology venture under the LUMS banner. Over the next few years, the concept grew from an idea to a tangible project. Today, the School offers a number of undergraduate and graduate degrees in addition to having internationally qualified and trained faculty. The groundbreaking ceremony for the School of Science and Engineering took place in 2006. In the next two years, the faculty and administration worked hard in creating and planning an avant-garde curricula which would first be taught to the bright young aspiring scientists of the country. In 2008, the classes for the degree programs commenced in the still under-constructed school’s building. The school completed the building construction in 2011 and the facility was inaugurated. In 2012, the first batch of students graduated from the school. On top of which, the school announced MS degree in Electrical Engineering along with new Doctoral programs in Biology, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Physics. Incidentally, in the same year, the school of science and engineering was renamed after the Founding Pro-Chancellor of LUMS – Syed Babar Ali. Therefore, the school has been called Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering ever since.
