SCALE decarbonizes advanced composites. We create new, bio-based materials that raise performance and lower cost while significantly cutting emissions to decarbonize the built world. Carbon fiber is light and strong, seemingly ideal for reducing the weight of cars, trains, and other products to cut greenhouse emissions during their use life. But, carbon fiber has drawbacks. It’s derived primarily from petroleum and produced using an extremely energy-intensive process. This means it's more expensive and emits higher greenhouse emissions during production than the materials it's typically used to replace. SCALE creates advanced biocomposite materials that deliver the benefits of carbon fiber without those drawbacks.
