Today’s advanced manufacturing equipment is highly sensitive to grid disruptions and power quality issues. These events are often frustrating, costly, and unpredictable, forcing operators to scrap material work-in-process and idle their workforce and equipment while resetting production. In many cases, issues can cause damage to equipment without warranty, insurance or utility coverage for the damage.
Utilities try to solve these problems by having a robust system of reserve capacity and grid-tied ancillary service equipment. However, these are often large, expensive installations that operate far from critical loads; thus, incapable of responding in the milliseconds required to mitigate problems.
On-site solutions, like Uninterruptible Power Supply (“UPS”) systems, backup generation (i.e. diesel generators) and power quality equipment, are often inadequate and expensive, especially for small-to-midsize companies.
GAUPS integrates battery storage with two inverters (one grid-side, one load-side) connected on a DC-link with a proprietary controller to provide uninterrupted, pristine power to customers and ancillary services to grid operators.
The device is able to instantly detect anomalies in power quality, activating 1 of 5 modes of operation. It’s capable of simultaneously supporting customers’ and utilities’ respective needs until normal electrical service is restored.
Sharing these benefits and costs enables a “shared economy” approach to power-quality electronics. Moreover, we allow customers to choose their preferred OEMs for batteries and inverters.
