SCIEMEC MANUFACTURES is a start-up company in the education sector that does business in the construction of science laboratories and manufacturing of science equipment. We are based at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) under the incubation hub system. Zimbabwe has a big shortage of science laboratories within its schools. Very few secondary schools have functional science laboratories. All public primary schools in Zimbabwe have no science laboratory, and only a handful of private primary schools have science laboratories. As Sciemec Manufacturers, we are championing the motto Rethink, Reimagine, Re-invent Value Chains for Economic Development by focusing on the early development of our country’s critical economic asset, human capital. Sciemec Manufacturers seek to empower school children across all schools in Zimbabwe by providing them with the tools and critical skills they need to be better equipped for the technologically advanced future they will inherit. We have engineered a new way to construct fully functional fixed laboratories in rural secondary schools which was deemed impossible. We convert classrooms into fully functional science laboratories for secondary schools which do not have science laboratories. We also do repair and maintenance services to old dilapidated science laboratories. We are the leading Scientific Equipment Manufacturers who developed the mobile laboratory. The mobile lab provides basic infrastructure for science teaching and learning in schools. Sciemec Manufacturers is the first company in Zimbabwe to successfully manufacture 250ml plastic beakers locally and we are in the process of developing more plastic apparatus. We are the first company to purely focus on manufacturing laboratory equipment locally to supply local companies and stop them or relying on importation. We are pursuing an import substitution strategy that will enable us to manufacture tailor-made apparatus that suits our local and regional markets.
