Science Policy Group HTX

The Science Policy Group is a nonpartisan student-led educational organization that will serve as a platform to bring together trainees who are interested in or have experience with policy-related activities. The group will provide resources to trainees interested in exploring opportunities in policy-related activities such as a) science, technology, health, and public policy, b) science communication, c) regulatory and legal affairs pertaining to scientific and technological advancements, and d) policies relating to scientific endeavors including impacts of funding for scientific research. Missions of SPG: • Educate trainees on different aspects of policy in which scientists can be involved. • Expose trainees to opportunities in policy as a career or short-term involvement through internships, fellowships, policy analysis and writing, and advocacy activities. • Engage scientists at all levels (students, postdocs, and faculty) in public policy, science communication, and advocacy for policy issues (for instance, funding concerns pertaining to biomedical research). • Provide information and resources to trainees applying for competitive positions, host speakers, organize networking events and career workshops, and so on.
