SCM Capital Limited, formerly known as Sterling Capital Markets Limited commenced operations in January 2006 having being registered by the Securities and Exchange Commission to carry on business of Issuing House and Fund/Portfolio Managers. The Company’s root as a premier investment bank in Nigeria dates back over 50 years as NAL Merchant Bank Limited before it was packaged as a re-branding of the capital market competencies of the constituent banks that made up the Sterling Bank Group. Subsequent to the Central Bank directive that repealed the Universal Banking model in the country and prevented Banks from owning subsidiaries, Sterling Bank Group divested its holding from the company through a Management Buy Out (“MBO”) structure to Broadway Investment Partners Ltd. The company`s name was consequently changed to SCM Capital Limited to reflect the new ownership. Given our antecedent in the capital market experience, about 50% of the companies quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange have our imprint, by either have handled their Initial Public Offer (IPO) or Capital Issues. Over the last five years, we have continued to make our mark as a leading investment banking institution, having participated in transactions in excess of N400bn, either as Financial Advisers, Issuing House or Underwriters or Fund Managers. SCM Capital played prominent roles in the recent reforms in the Banking and Insurance Industries, having raised capital and provided advisory services in a number of the mergers and acquisition transactions. Indeed we were responsible for about 30% of the N180bn fresh capital mobilized in the Industry during the period.
