The Australian Healthcare System is struggling in its attempt to provide cost-effective, quality care. Annual census growth, documentation, electronic documentation systems, and additional ancillary duties continue to take providers away from direct patient care. ScribeAustralia’s goal is to assist doctors by training medical scribes in how to intelligently share the doctor’s burden of data gathering, EMR documentation, and additional ancillary duties that take doctors away from direct patient care. In doing so, doctors are brought back to the bedside, the doctor’s individual productivity and patient throughput increase, and ultimately improve patient care, so those goals of providing cost-effective, quality care are achieved. Medical Scribes are one-on-one, real-time, productivity personnel who help doctors with ancillary duties during the clinical shift. These duties are customised to the doctors' needs and usually include real-time documentation, facilitating access to investigation results, and assistance with patient flow. The Medical Scribe role can be designed to the service and the individual doctor, within Emergency Departments, Inpatients, Outpatients, and Theatres.
