SeaBlue Canada is a joint project of eight of Canada’s most active and well-respected NGOs. We work together to hold the Government of Canada to account on ambitious, equitable and impactful marine protection.
SeaBlue Canada was instrumental in successfully raising Government ambition to exceed the 10 per cent target set for 2020, resulting in close to 14 per cent protection of Canada’s marine environment.
With 2020 behind us, our focus is to drive forward ambitious and meaningful marine protection on the path to 25 by 25, and 30 by 30.
SeaBlue has three overarching goals that will be met collectively and through the work of individual member organizations.
1. Ensure that new protected areas meet minimum standards as committed by the federal government in April 2019.
2. Advance new protections to meet the goal of 25 per cent by 2025 and lay the groundwork for 2030.
3. Maintain and grow public support among diverse stake and rights holders for healthy ocean ecosystems.
With combined reach, networks and expertise, SeaBlue works collaboratively to ensure Canada puts forward strong leadership in international initiatives and commitments.
