About Sealed Optics Company
About Sealed Optics Sealed Optics was founded to provide customers with design and manufacturing support for sealing and mounting optical products. Commercial off-the-shelf components can often serve common issues, but we believe that a custom solution can be designed for even the most difficult optical sealing challenge. We work closely with you, bringing decades of knowledge in the industry, to meet your needs. We specialize in designing and manufacturing pre-mounted optics, permanently sealed for rugged performance. Options include: Non-magnetic mounts RoHS compliant seals Optical coatings with full view coverage Seals to heat sensitive or fragile substrates Superior hermeticity (High pressure sight-glasses to ultrahigh vacuum viewports) Polarization preserving windows – low seal strain Special mounting systems and materials About Sealed Optics Grant Schrag, Principal Grant Schrag made his first sealed optical assemblies before 1987. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Florida, he designed and fabricated vacuum laser ports using germanium and zinc selenide windows. While investigating thin-film deposition via CO2 laser ablation, under the direction of Samuel O. Colgate, Grant learned that commercial, infrared-transmitting viewports were unavailable. As good experimentalists will do, he and Sam created their own sealed, UHV window assemblies. As a post doc, Grant continued to collaborate with Sam, developing two more hermetically sealed window designs. These were awarded US patents. In 1990, Grant began his industrial career, working first for Insulator Seal. Together with his managers there, Art and Dave Dunton, Grant successfully launched first Flobon™ and then VacOptix™ extended-range, sealed optical product lines. In the following years, he worked to advance sealed optical product offerings at both Ceramaseal and MPF Products. After more than thirty years of designing and building hermetically sealed products, Grant launched Sealed Optics Company, Inc. to specialize in the design and manufacture of sealed optics. Grant has designed optical windows for an extensive range of projects over the course of his career, including but not limited to: High energy materials research Down-hole drilling Sub-sea exploration Aerospace guidance systems Outer space microwave transmission Kerr cell microscopy Semiconductor processing Argon-geochronology Pressurized UV lamp research Alkali metal research Chemical reaction cells With the establishment of Sealed Optics, the list of projects is destined to grow! Please send any optical design inquiries directly to Grant at info@sealedoptics.com.
