About SEASOUNDS
Underwater noise generated by anthropic activities pollutes natural marine soundscapes, which can pose a serious threat to aquatic wildlife and have adverse effects on blue growth. However, despite its significant importance, underwater noise pollution remains largely misunderstood and poorly assessed due to limited research tools and methods. The European project SEASOUNDS aims to investigate marine soundscapes, enhancing their characterization and assessment for the purpose of improving underwater noise mitigation solutions. The project intends to systematically incorporate tools from various disciplines, including seismology, to bolster its research and address relevant questions effectively. Furthermore, in addition to its efforts in optimizing noise mitigation solutions, the project will provide training to 10 PhD students in the field of noise-pollution-related research and other relevant soft skills to improve their future career employability.
