About Seaview Project
Since 1985, Seaview’s team have put the most vulnerable and marginalized people first and provided a safe and supportive space for everyone over 16 years old. We are the only open access centre of our type in East Sussex, outside of Brighton, and have over 24,429 contacts with people across all our services each year. Each month our team intervene over 800 times to directly avert crisis for individuals and welcome approximately 70 people a day to our Wellbeing Centre, working with them individually to build a network of bespoke practical support and community care that meets their needs. Everyday thousands of individuals in the UK fall through the cracks in society and end up cold, scared, confused and alone. We reach out to individuals experiencing a range of issues including mental health challenges, learning disabilities, substance misuse, physical disabilities, loneliness, rough sleeping and homelessness. We start with the basics – serving over 6,616 hot meals a year and providing showers and clean clothes. We treat everyone who comes through our door with the care and respect every human deserves, helping to repair their sense of dignity and wellbeing. We provide a range of peer and professional led support services to help people create a sustainable pathway to a healthy, independent and happy life – this ranges from on-site medical care and dentistry to helping people navigate the benefit system and secure a safe home. The cost-of-living crisis is hard for us all; but for people already living in poverty, with no buffers, savings, ability to access credit, it’s especially devastating. Budgets that were often already inadequate to cover both heating and eating are now forcing those on the lowest incomes to make draconian choices. Now, more than ever, we need to work together to empower those on the edges of society to achieve physical, financial and emotional security and ensure nobody gets left out in the cold.
