Seedling’s mission is to educate and empower students, teachers and families around allergy and asthma health conditions. Our goal is to increase proficiency regarding allergy and asthma health conditions in education settings within Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Food allergies are a growing food safety and public health concern that affect an estimated 8% of children in the United States. That’s 1 in 13 children, or about 2 students per classroom. Approximately 25 million Americans have asthma. This equals to about 1 in 13 Americans, including 8% of adults and 7% of children in America. Please see our website for citations for these statistics. Seedling takes a comprehensive approach to achieving its mission by focusing on three different audiences: students, teachers and families. All of our content adheres to Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Learning Standards and National Health Education Standards (NHES). We incorporate guidelines on food allergies issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Our Board of Advisors, consisting of physicians, educators, mental health experts, nutritionists and caregivers, is integral to our content creation and review process.
