About Self Harm Research Group
The Self-Harm Research Group (SHRG) is led by Professor Ellen Townsend – Professor of Psychology in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham, where we are based. Our group investigates the psychological factors associated with self-harm and suicidality, as well as establishing interventions that promote recovery. Our work has influenced a range of policy related to the prevention and treatment of self-harm and suicidality – including policy created by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Public Health England, Patient UK, Rethink Mental Illness, and the Mental Health Foundation, and we have received funding from the NHS, NIHR, and the ESRC. The SHRG harnesses the voices and insight of young people with lived experiences of self-harm and suicidality, helping us gain a deeper understanding of the issues they face. This understanding guides our research and the development of future services that will benefit those in need.
