Sembawang Wind Orchestra company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Sembawang Wind Orchestra (SWO), originally known as the Sembawang Symphonic Band (SSB), was formed in 1989 through the initiative of Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, former President of Singapore. In 1992, SSB was formally inaugurated by Dr. Tony Tan at the Musical Fountain in Sentosa. Mr. Lam Seng Kye, the pioneer resident conductor, began leading the ensemble in 1988, laying the foundation for its development as Singapore’s first community band. In 1993, Mr. Desmond was chosen as the resident conductor and later took on the role of Music Director. In 1997, SSB was renamed the Sembawang Wind Orchestra (SWO), reflecting a shift in its musical direction towards a broader wind orchestra format. This name change signaled the ensemble’s focus on an expanded repertoire and higher performance standards. In 2016, Mr. Joshua Kong was appointed as the resident conductor, bringing fresh energy to the orchestra's performances.
