Liquid medicine dosing errors can have serious consequences. This is especially true for children and the elderly. Dose errors are often made by parents and caretakers as well as trained healthcare professionals.
These dosing errors can be due to a miscalculation in the volume needed, ambiguous instructions, misreading, or stress.
As such, there is a market need for a globally accessible device which can control dose volume and count the number of doses administered over time.
SetDose is a device that assists with the issue of compliance of syringe administered medicines. The device consists of a mechanically coupled armature that ‘clips’ onto a standard syringe body, together with a visual indicator panel that charts both the number of doses and the volume of the doses administered. In the first embodiment of the product these are simple mechanical ‘analogue’ devices.
Developed by researchers in the Schools of Pharmacy and Engineering at The University of Sydney, a prototype system has been developed and is currently undergoing laboratory development.
