SFWR Ltd work in the steel frame and historic cast iron window industry and specialise in the refurbishment of all makes of steel framed and cast iron windows. Although we are a relatively new company our clients already include companies such as Morgan Sindall, MACE, Beard, Brymor and many others, because of our unique skill sets and knowledge, We are one of the only companies in the UK who can offer in-situ refurbishments and all of our methods and finishes have been inspected and approved by Heritage England. From our factory in Sussex we offer an ex-situ service for clients with more severe window issues, and we can fabricate and replace any type of corroded section and welded repair. We can also fabricate and manufacture any type of replica historic steel window when the originals are beyond salvage and these have also been inspected and approved by Heritage England. Factory finishes include hot zinc spray or galvanized treatments and we powder coat finish and can spray finish when a different colour is required internally. We also restore all types of historic leaded lights, refurbish or replace lead cames, even cater for thicker glazing such as Norman slab glass. We offer the option of traditional putty finishes but we also cater for modern life and can turn existing steel or cast iron windows into energy efficient modern looking units. We do this by replacing putty with a powder coated square steel bar mechanically fixed to the frame to give a crisp modern sightline, and we use vacuum glass units that can have a U-value as low as 0.45, which is far better than triple glazing. Another bonus is vacuum units have an expected life span of fifty years. Many of our clients find this a far more aesthetically pleasing and more economical choice, retaining the original fabric and history of the building, rather than the new thicker frame option to house double glazing of a replica replacement window.
