‘Combining Sports & Business Principles To Create Opportunities For Pathway Players’
The Ospreys and SGIL LINK CIC have combined their resources in an attempt to stem the flow of Welsh Talent across the Bridge whilst simultaneously creating opportunities for Pathway Players to play rugby, study at University or embark on a Skills Apprenticeship in the Region. The genesis of this initiative was born out of the need to fund a trial opportunity for Will Hickey (Ospreys Back Row Forward). Neil Armstrong, founder and owner at RNA Plant kindly stepped in to sponsor Will during his 3 month trial period. At the end of that period, Will was offered an Ospreys contract and he has since played for the 1st XV as a professional player. Will also transferred his Engineering Degree from UCD in Dublin to Swansea University. The Ospreys and Swansea University have a ‘Strategic Partnership’ which allows for this type of arrangement to be facilitated. The Ospreys, SGIL LINK CIC and Swansea University and also working closely together to create greater awareness around opportunities to play, study and work in the Region.
