SGR is a social enterprise which promotes decentralized methods of waste management including the practices of source segregation, recycling and composting. With growing population and urbanization we are consuming more products as a result of which we are generating more waste. The liner approach of our existing economic model which is based on the Take, Make, Dispose concept has resulted in the menace of waste , which is increasingly becoming a global problem. Waste is an environmental, social as well as public health issue. Currently waste management is a highly fragmented sector proliferated by the informal sector where illegal and unethical means of doing business is the norm. The working conditions of the people involved in this trade is highly hazardous and deplorable. At SGR we want to work in this space and foster an organized approach to waste management. We believe in the concept of a circular economy where waste is seen as a resource and as an input for re manufacturing of products. As our first initiative towards organizing waste management in Odisha, SGR Pvt Ltd has launched a portal www.recyclepaper.in, developed in collaboration with SDRC Pvt Ltd, to help recover and recycle more paper waste from the waste stream. As per some estimates only 27% of paper waste is recovered in India while the rest goes to landfills resulting in pollution, green house gas emission and global warming. With the environmental hazards of producing paper from wood pulp, it is becoming increasingly important to recover and use waste paper for the manufacturing of printing, writing and packaging paper. We are trying to help create an organized approach for recovering and recycling more waste paper. For a sustainable world it is imperative that people take responsiblity of sustainable extraction of natural resrouces, responsible design and manufacturing of products and efficient management of end of life products. We have to mimic nature and create circular systems and processes. Its our responsibility to hand over a earth to our next generation in a manner that is better than what we recieved.
