The Timothy Smith Fund for "Old Roxbury" was established on March 8, 1996 the City of Boston through the acceptance of a bequest distribution from the Timothy Smith Fund which is held at Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company. To fulfill the spirit and intent of the Smith’s bequest, Mayor Menino’s administration created, with the approval of the Smith Fund Trustees and input from community leaders, a vehicle to bring the benefits of computer technology to as wide a population within the target area as possible. Because of the Mayor’s action TSN has invested in excess of over $6.5 Million dollars in the creation of Community Computer Learning Centers across the Old Roxbury Neighborhood, the contributions of these Centers to the Community are as follows - Our Impact • Number of Students using our labs: Over 170,000 • Number of contact hours of Basic Technology Training and Certification: 1,054,578 • Over 500 computers • 39 Timothy Smith Centers • Technology in support of Boston Public School students at 14 schools • Over 1 million hours of computer access • From 2011 – 2013: 92% of completing students TSN Centers OLLR training went on for advanced training, participated in internships or found employment for which they would otherwise not have been qualified. Today there are 27 active Timothy Smith Centers. Timothy Smith Centers provide comprehensive community-based technology services to children, adults, families, adults, and senior citizens. Mission The mission of the TSN is to increase the capacity of the Greater Roxbury community of Boston to effectively use and access technology by providing technology-related services, educational programs and resources as well as strengthening and supporting the individual TSCs.
