Shared Opportunity Service, Inc. (SOS) is the non-profit 501(c)(3) that operates the Kent Family Center in Chestertown, Maryland. The agency was established in 1996 as a result of a local needs assessment that identified gaps in the family support services available in the community. The center is the result of a partnership formed in 1999 between SOS and Friends of the Family Inc., a statewide network of 25 Family Support Centers in Maryland. Some of our programs are supported by funding from the Local Management Board and the United Way of Kent County. Our mission is to support the families and community members of Kent and Queen Anne's counties. We are a non-profit that gives back to this dynamic community by caring about, and providing assistance with, the varied needs of families, however they may be defined. We have a skilled staff, dedicated volunteers, and programs to address the challenges facing many of our local families, from child care and development, to parenting, GED and ESL classes, to wellness and financial workshops, youth mentoring and job skills training. We are here to help all family members become healthy, stable, self-sufficient participants in their community. We are here to help your family shine!
