She Can Initiative

SHE-CAN Initiative, established in March 2022, is a refugee community-based organization dedicated to empowering women and girls in the Kakuma refugee camp, located in north-western Kenya. With a core focus on restoring dignity and resilience, we provide essential life skills and education to vulnerable individuals, particularly emphasizing sexual and reproductive health, mental well-being, and sustainable livelihoods. Our programs aim to bridge the gap in access to education and support services, empowering women and girls to make informed decisions about their health and future. Driven by a vision of an empowered and dignified society, the SHE-CAN Initiative operates within the challenging context of the Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei settlement, where refugees and host community members face numerous barriers. Through strategic partnerships and innovative approaches, we strive to address the unique needs of the most marginalized, including women, girls, and those with disabilities. Our organization's commitment to integrity, professionalism, and social justice guides our efforts to create positive change and foster community-driven development. At SHE-CAN Initiative, our goal is to sensitize every woman and girl in the refugee camp on the importance of sexual and reproductive health while creating safe spaces for empowerment and education. Through our thematic focus areas, including women's and girls' empowerment, education, resilience, and health awareness, we aim to build sustainable solutions and promote holistic well-being.
