About Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre (SMIC)
The Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre (SMIC) is an environment where researchers thrive, businesses and healthcare providers are supported, and collaborations can grow. By being at the forefront of multi-modal imaging science, we apply innovative solutions to end-user driven technological and knowledge gaps. We give businesses working in health, advanced manufacturing and forensic science access to the latest scanning, imaging, advanced microscopy and related analytical technologies, so they can test, innovate and enhance their products and their operational workflow. Vision statement – The Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre’s ambition is to be a regional, national and internationally recognised multimodal imaging Centre operating efficiently and transparently, making a quantifiable impact on the end-users and beyond. SMIC is a unique environment that has been set up to coordinate, harmonise, identify and develop the best multi-modal imaging solutions to the benefit of industry, healthcare, secure societies and academia. Its unique selling point is the proximity of the state-of-the-art imaging equipment and expertise enabling the quick identification of the combination of the most appropriate imaging and expertise resources needed to solve a problem. SMIC brings together state-of- the-art imaging equipment and multi-disciplinary expertise across 4 Research Centres (Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), Biomedical Sciences research Centre (BMRC), Materials and Engineering Research Institute and Sports and Physical Activities Research Centre), and multiple facilities encompassing 12 imaging modalities.
