Shenkin brings a great combination of Middle Eastern and European backgrounds to the table, with a warm atmosphere, caring service, and a bit of fun. We make everything fresh daily on our premises including home-made, unique pastries, using only the highest quality local produce.
Born into hospitality, Arie Haikin started working at the family’s bakery in 1970 when he was 13 years old. During his time at the bakery, Arie mastered the art of baking and developed a deep passion for food which he wanted to share with the world. After years of experience in both the bakery and restaurants, Arie decided to move to Australia with his wife Bosmat and their four sons Ben, Din, Bar and Yaar.
Arie decided to open Shenkin (named after the famous street in Tel-Aviv, Israel) on 31st of October 2007 and bring the unique flavours that he created to the people of Sydney. It wasn’t long until his sons joined the family business, sharing the same passions as their dad and developing a new passion for coffee which they have taken to a new level. It is this combination of family history, traditional Middle Eastern food, European pastries and modern flair of coffee that makes Shenkin cafe what it is today.
