The word babymama is used as a deragatory term to put down single women raising children, specifically women of color. Admittedly, when I first had my daughter Nylah I was offended when I was referred to as one because of the way I had been socialized to feel about it.
My goal with sharing my story and creating She Really Had A Baby is to change the streotype of what it means to be a single mother by removing the negative stigma around being a babymama.
It’s really not that bad, in fact it can be hilarious.
