SheSteps is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending period poverty and reducing cervical cancer cases, especially among women in India and beyond. With a mission to tackle both the physical and mental barriers surrounding menstruation, SheSteps provides access to eco-friendly sanitary products, including biodegradable and reusable pads, while educating communities on menstrual hygiene and empowering women to take charge of their health. The organization also actively promotes HPV vaccination as a critical measure to prevent cervical cancer, which is the fourth most common cancer in women globally. In 2022, there were approximately 660,000 new cases of cervical cancer and 350,000 deaths worldwide.
In India, vaccination rates remain alarmingly low, with coverage below 10% for eligible girls aged 9 to 14 years due to low awareness, cultural stigma, and the lack of integration into the National Immunization Programme. By addressing these challenges and promoting sustainable menstrual practices, SheSteps aims to create a healthier, eco-conscious world where no woman is held back by her period or preventable diseases.
