We have a rich history which dates back to 1923, when the original company L.J. Smith began trading in woven and knitted goods. The label of Shetland Woollen Company has been knitted here since the 1950s. Now we are one of a few remaining knitwear factories in Shetland and are very proud of our heritage, where we are and what we do.
Our company became an employee ownership trust company in 2019 to ensure the company would have a future in Shetland and preserve the jobs of our small skilled team of 12 staff.
We use a blend of traditional and modern techniques and technology to produce high-quality knitwear.
We are in this together and we do everything with the upmost care and attention to create the best knitwear we can.
