The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) was conceptualised in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for improved pandemic preparedness. Established in 2020, SIDC will be a translational infectious disease centre equipped with a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory supplemented by multiple core laboratories. SIDC primarily focuses on fundamental biomedical research, diagnostic kit and therapeutics advancement, medical equipment testing, and human capital development.
