Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC)

The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) was conceptualised in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for improved pandemic preparedness. Established in 2020, SIDC will be a translational infectious disease centre equipped with a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory supplemented by multiple core laboratories. SIDC primarily focuses on fundamental biomedical research, diagnostic kit and therapeutics advancement, medical equipment testing, and human capital development. Our vision: Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases Through Advancement in Research and Development. Our mission: To enable established infectious disease research and development and catalyse the biomedical industry in Sarawak through cutting-edge technology and data-driven approaches, attracting world-class talent and networking with global partners. The mission will be achieved through: ▪ Disease surveillance and monitoring ▪ Research and development of vaccines and treatments ▪ Developing novel theranostic solutions ▪ Supporting Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in the pandemic response
