Signal Processing & Biomedical Technology Unit - AUTH

The Signal Processing and Biomedical Technology Unit (SPBTU) operates under the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The Unit mainly focuses on AI-enabled solutions and digital biomarkers for the healthcare and education industry. We are conducting state-of-the-art research on diverse biomedical problems and translating the results into human-centric digital solutions across the spectrum of disease prevention and early diagnosis to continuous monitoring and treatment titration. Our published work includes the development of advanced signal and image processing techniques with applications in electrography (ECG, EGG, EMG, EEG) signal processing, endoscopic/ultrasound/magnetic resonance image analysis, brain-computer interfaces, affective computing, mobile health applications, unobtrusive remote sensing systems, and mixed reality medical applications. The Unit coordinates and participates in research projects funded by the European Commission, such as the I-PROGNOSIS H2020 for Parkinson’s early diagnosis, HosmartAI H2020 for integrated healthcare systems, and PROTEIN H2020 for personalised nutrition.
