About Sages of International Law in Africa - SILA
The SILA is an independent, international partnership-driven, non-profit and non-governmental organization, that is aimed at advancing the learning, understanding, and application of international humanitarian law and promotion of the fundamental principles of humanitarianism in Africa and beyond. SILA, through the SILPA Chambers institute cases of violations of the rights of journalists, IDPs, women and children's rights, torture, inhuman and degrading treatment of persons and suspects at the appropriate international, regional, and national courts, irrespective of status, race, religion and boundaries. SILA involves in restarting the capacities of local communities affected by armed/humanitarian conflicts, underrepresented and marginalised communities, less privileged and vulnerable persons, through The SILA Skills and Vocational Training Centre, aimed at empowering women and children, to be self-reliant and independent members of their communities. We're driven on: A. Advocacy B. Pro-bono Legal Representation C. Education D. Empowerment Our Call: A. Domestication of the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols in Africa and beyond B. Respecting the IHL Principles C. Accountability D. Punishment upon Violations of Human Rights Principles & Crimes Against Humanity. Our focus is to ensure that members of the general public are informed, educated, and are given the tools to bring IHL to life. SILA fulfills this objective through capacity building, collaborative and advanced skills development ventures, as well as a profession-based approach, to promoting the understanding and application of IHL.
