Edwin Martell Silk started the first Silks Accountancy firm in Whanganui in 1904. In true Silks tradition, David Fraser and Cameron Town understood the necessity for change and that Audit should become an independent business. It would allow their team to stretch and expand their knowledge base and in 2010 the decision to separate the Audit group from the Business Advisory Services group was made. Maintaining the Silks legacy was also important and so our Team name became our business name. We are ‘Silks Audit Chartered Accountants’. January 2011 saw Silks Audit come into their own. We have one of the largest audit teams in the Central and West Coast of the North Island predominately in the Whanganui, Manawatu, Taranaki and Taupo regions. Silks Audit offers a wide range of audit and assurance services from the very small to the very large in sectors such as: Education (Schools, Kindergartens, Kohanga Reo, Early Childhood Centres) , Maori Authorities (Te Ture Whenua Act 1993), Maori Land Court investigations, Maori Trust Boards, Post Government Settlement Entities (Grievances settled with the Crown), Companies (Private, National and International) including overseas shareholding, Prospectus/Issuer Entities (who raise and issue funds to the public) Farms, Forests, Merchandise and Services, Real Estate Trust Accounts, Agricultural Sector –Farms and Forests, Gambling Operators, Anti Money Laudering & Contering Financing of Terrorism non assurance engagements (AML/ CFT), Community Trusts, Incorporated Societies – Service providers, Clubs and Sport trading, Charitable Trusts/ organisations – Health Services, Community Services, Religious and Non – Public Funds – New Zealand Defence Force. In January 2014 David Fraser retired from the partnership and Talia Anderson-Town took over as the second partner. With 12 staff and two partners (Cameron Town and Talia Anderson-Town) they continue the firm today offering a full range of audit and assurance services.
