Established in 2015, the Silverbacks Rugby Sevens is the official rugby team of the University of St.Gallen. The club enjoys a full membership of more than 30 active HSG students, with a community of alumni of over 150 former members, fielding a team that competes in various tournaments throughout the fall and spring.
The Silverbacks are one of the leading academic rugby teams in Switzerland and their reach has expanded far beyond Switzerland’s borders. The team has recently gone to the 2024 Ovalies University Cup in France (biggest university rugby tournament in Europe), competing against some of the best sevens teams from France and Europe.
One trait that has stayed within the club since it was founded is its open mindedness, welcoming in all members regardless of their skill level or experience. As a result, the Silverbacks are among the largest sport clubs at the University of St.Gallen.
As an athletic and social club, the Silverbacks pride themselves on providing motivated players with a rewarding and memorable undergraduate experience, both from the athletic side through the sport of rugby, but also from the tight community that the club has brought together through the years.
