At Sim & Baciu Advocates, challenging the norm is the norm. The firm is helmed by husband and wife, Cristian and Elaine, who graduated as classmates from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) in 2015. After QMUL, Elaine pursued an LLM in American Legal Studies at William and Mary Law School in Virginia as a Drapers' scholar, while Cristian stayed in London to pursue an LLM in Banking and Finance at QMUL where he graduated top of his class. He later completed his BPTC course on a full scholarship from Inner Temple. Before relocating to Sarawak, Cristian worked as a judicial assistant to Lord Justice Kitchin at the UK Court of Appeal and in the litigation team of an international oil and gas company in London. Elaine on the other hand ventured into social entrepreneurship advocating for the ethical recruitment of migrant workers in Asia. She was recently recognised as a Forbes 30 under 30 social entrepreneur for her work.
Originating from families of legal professionals, both lawyers have distinctly unique cultural backgrounds and speak a combination of 7 European and Asian languages. Elaine grew up in Kuching, Sarawak, whilst Cristian was raised in Romania and naturalised as a British citizen. The partners' diverse backgrounds enable a locally appropriate practice, offering high quality legal services with a global commercial outlook.
Above all, the firm's mission is to keep law simple. Doing away with legal jargon, and focusing on clear communication to provide legal services that clients can understand and value.
