SINIK - Munich

Sinik-Munich is the student initiative for intercultural competence in Munich. In a team of students from different countries, we offer basic workshops on intercultural awareness in the student environment. Intercultural encounters have long been part of everyday student life. In addition to many foreign students at the LMU Munich, there are exchange programs such as ERASMUS, which both bring foreign students to Munich and send Munich students abroad. The multitude of intercultural encounters that take place in the student environment gives rise to the need for intercultural skills in order to be able to communicate successfully with fellow students from the most diverse cultures. Accordingly, SiniK-Munich pursues the following goal: To develop the participants' understanding of their own cultural imprint and that of others, to create tolerance for cultural differences based on this understanding and to enable the participants to communicate and act effectively with people from other cultures. Specifically, the difficulties that arise from everyday student life are to be analyzed and thus the familiarization of foreign students with the foreign culture should be made easier. The intercultural workshop facilitates the contact between German and foreign students and ideally contributes to the development of an international network of students. It is also important to sensitize German students to intercultural relationships and thus prepare them for a semester, an internship or another stay abroad. In addition to the goals that we pursue with our workshops, the most important motivation for trainers and for the participants is the fun of getting to know new people and gaining new experiences and impressions across all cultural boundaries.
