About SCU's Internet of Things Research Lab (SIOTLAB)
At the SCU's Internet of Things Research Lab (SIOTLAB), we design and develop technologies in the following areas: — Communication Technologies: IoT devices need to communicate with each other and the internet to exchange data and instructions. Some communication technologies used in IoT systems include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, Zigbee, Z-Wave, NFC, and RFID. — Edge, Fog, and Cloud Computing: IoT systems generate a vast amount of data, which needs to be processed and stored reliably and securely. Cloud computing platforms provide scalable, cost-effective solutions for storing and processing IoT data. Edge and Fog computing involves processing data at or closer to the network's edge, closer to the IoT devices, rather than sending it to the cloud for processing. This approach reduces latency and improves the efficiency of IoT systems. — Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI): We leverage AI and ML methods to design, develop, and enhance various aspects of IoT systems. In particular, we utilize these methods for enhanced systems visibility, configuration, and security. On the other hand, IoT systems can generate large amounts of data that can be analyzed to derive insights and make intelligent decisions. AI and ML algorithms can be used to process IoT data and generate valuable insights. — Security Technologies: IoT systems are vulnerable to various security threats, including hacking, malware, and denial-of-service attacks. Encryption, authentication, and access control are essential to secure IoT systems.
