SKEELS is a growing jewellery and product design company. It was established in 1994 by Rebecca Skeels and is now based in Farnham, Surrey. Rebecca's work ranges from unique hand made cufflinks and pendants to inspirational furniture and games.
Colour, texture and form are cleverly played off against one another and, Rebecca's sometimes incongruous use of geometric and natural shapes are subtly combined to create wonderful expressive pieces.
Her ranges are unique in their quality as well as design. Each range is made up from pod like pieces with contrasts of colour, texture and form. Mixing materials such as silver, textured rubber and plastics. The necklaces, bracelets and pendants being the most dazzling pieces from the ranges, double sided with different textures and colours each side for different occasions.
Rebecca takes the unusual approach of allowing the client to contribute to the design process on all commissioned work from engagement rings and wedding bands to small sculptures and vessels.
Rebecca can work with many different materials including platinum, gold and silver.
Rebecca's work, additionally, concentrates on her experimentation of precious metal clay, for which she won a grant from the Arts Council of England to research and develop. Precious metal clay is very fine silver filings held together with a binder. The clay can be shaped, carved and moulded like a normal clay, and when it is fired the binder burns away leaving a 99.9% silver creation.
Precious metal clay has enabled Rebecca to develop specialised techniques and processes to create unique pieces. Each design is individual and unique, giving great scope for more one off production pieces.
Rebecca’s designing and making also extends to larger products. She uses her skills as a jewellery designer and the knowledge from her furniture degree to create unique objects.
