All my books are 100% handcrafted with care, using quality materials, and a love for the traditional bookbinding trade.
From folding, cutting, and sewing the paper, hand cutting all three sides using a plough, creating fitting book covers and attaching them to the text block, hand binding the book in vegetable-tanned Goat or Calf leather and adding selected endpapers, to finishing by creating a cover design that is either blind-tooled (impressions only) or gilded with 24K gold using brass hand tools.
Each step is manual, and done using traditional bookbinding hand tools and techniques helping to keep bookbinding knowledge and craftsmanship, once prevalent but now almost forgotten in our modern and fast-paced world, alive.
As much as I can I use local or artisan materials and sustainably sourced resources. The paper I use is archival quality, acid-free and certified sustainably forested (SFI) here in the US where possible.
Aside from bookbinding, I am also restoring old, worn books, giving them a second life. It is very rewarding to watch something coming back to life.
