SLPMA is an organization of private pharmaceutical companies that have manufactured high quality essential medicines locally, for over 50 years. Our membership supplies pharmaceuticals for government hospitals, and for the local and international markets.
Manufacturing high quality medicines in factories approved and monitored by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) of Sri Lanka and operating in line with the World Health Organisation’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, the SLPMA is committed to;
• Promote the efficiency and value of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka.
• Support the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-Being.
• Support the research and development of vaccines and medicines for the communicable and non-communicable diseases.
• Build a renowned globally competitive industry that can save & earn foreign exchange.
• Contribute to the economic and social development of Sri Lanka in line with the National Health Policy.
Currently employing 2000 people directly, and supporting the livelihood of over 20,000 indirectly, SLPMA is looking toward a future with the members planning capacity increases and market expansion, building new plants and upgrading current facilities to enhance the manufacture of a wider range of medicines and infrastructure for the Sri Lankan market and for export.
Currently providing over 80 essential medicines for the government sector, it is the objective of the SLPMA to hep the country save billions of dollars of annual expenditure on pharmaceutical imports by producing world-class pharmaceuticals locally to provide quality cost effective medicines to all Sri Lankans.
