Since the establishment of the office in 2007 we have developed thorough knowledge of the phases of building – always with a value based approach, with the customer, business partners and users as the main players.
The largest obstacle towards good results is often misunderstandings between the customer and the architect. At SMAK architects we facilitate cooperation instead of dictating solutions. Together with customers, users and business partners we identify crucial questions and needs, which means that architectural proposals can be evaluated from a collective understanding.
Following the need for increased flexibility and accommodation of changes, much modern architecture is based on an out-dated version of the flexibility-term where one size fits all. The promise of a clean slate where any form of activity can take place has far too often resulted in a sterile and irrelevant architecture: architecture that tries to do everything but ends up doing nothing.
SMAK architects seek to create space for delimited activities, which on their own conditions, support the possibility for development. With a large spatial differentiation it becomes possible for different activities to complement each other such that the collisions between different spatial needs can often result in surprising potentials.
