SMA Negeri 4 is a change from the State Teacher Education School (SPG) in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. No. 0246/0/1991 on the transfer of function of Teacher Education School and Sports School into Senior High School (SMTA). And the letter of the Head of the Office of Depdikbud Municipality Level II Tegal No. 8145/Io3.35/A.a/1990 dated July 19, 1990 about the handover of the former building. SPG Negeri to SMA Negeri 4 Tegal, so that teachers, buildings, facilities and infrastructure of SMA Negeri 4 Tegal inherited from SPG Negeri Tegal.
