Key elements of Smart Environment Khmelnytskyi include: - Capping and restoring the existing dumpsite; - Expanding the landfill by about 6 hectares along the north face of the existing dump, using standards set forth in the EU Landfill Directive of 1999; - Establishing and promoting a system of source-separation of MSW; - Opening a material recovery facility that will remove recyclable materials and prepare the organic fraction; - Composting the biological fraction and using the resulting materials as cover for the landfill as well as other municipal purposes; - Opening neighborhood collection centers for bulky waste, green waste and construction waste (CW).
