Smart Mountain is a Tech4Dev project creating the digital ecosystem enabling price stability for carbon markets, which in turn will facilitate the curtailment of GHGs at scale. We are currently seeking proof-of-concept in the Caribbean, given its vulnerability to the climate crisis. It aims to be a digital platform de-risking the financing of high-integrity, industry-agnostic carbon credit projects by pairing them with blended financial instruments and traceability with verified impacts. It is a step to mobilise the trillions of Assets Under Management (AUM) disincentivised from investing in underdeveloped markets (e.g. due to unverified impact, institutional and governance shortcomings, and suboptimal rates of return) with an environmental market opportunity (e.g. carbon credits and biodiversity credits) for developing countries. The Caribbean has this problem, but it may also be the most suitable space in the world to demonstrate proof of concept for Smart Mountain as we leverage its cutting-edge scientific research built upon high-integrity carbon credits.
