The Electronic Government (e-Gov), also known as the Smart Zambia Institute, operates as a division within the Office of the President. Its primary mandate is to manage and promote electronic government services and processes. The division is responsible for facilitating access to these services, aiming to enhance service delivery and improve citizens' access to government services. Additionally, it coordinates e-government initiatives and oversees matters related to information and communication technology in public bodies. The division derives its authority from the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021, a governance act designed to enable access to electronic government services and enhance service delivery.
On January 7, 2022, His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, the President of the Republic of Zambia, signed the Commencement Order for the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021. Consequently, the E-Government Division, operating under the Smart Zambia Institute, will function in accordance with the provisions of the Electronic Government Act No. 41 of 2021.
