Founded in 2021, the Sustainable Multi-functional Automated Resilient Transport Infrastructures laboratory (SMARTIlab), is a research group within the Civil Engineerig department at the University of Palermo (UNIPA).
The research group develops projects involving different sectors of transport infrastructure such as:
- Investigation of sustaibable materials, such as rubberised asphalts and bio-binders;
- Monitoring of experimental sections with sensors;
- Sustainability assessment of conventional and unconventional pavement materials and pavement activities, i.e. Life cycle assessment (LCA).
Our mission is to address the upcoming challenges of asphalt pavements by providing innovative solutions to guarantee a smoother transition to a more sustainable society.
