About SME Tucson Section

National SME Organization The Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) is an international society of professionals in the minerals industry. The SME membership is nearly 15,000 strong, with members in nearly 100 countries. A member society of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME), SME's roots date back to 1871 when a handful of mining engineers founded AIME. Since its inception, SME has continued to evolve over the years to stay abreast of industry changes and to reflect the ever-broadening interests of its members. SME Tucson Section SME Tucson is a local section of SME based in Tucson, Arizona. We are a legally constituted unit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc., to help enhance the professional development of our members and provide local service to the public. We welcome members who are employed or interested in any aspect of the minerals industry. Annual membership dues are $25 per person. The SME Tucson Section members meet each second Wednesday of the month for industry fellowship and to remain up to date on current events and new innovations! The monthly meetings consist of a no-host social half-hour, followed by dinner. After dinner, an invited professional gives a presentation on an aspect of the mining industry or related subject. For more information, see SME Events!
