The Smithsonian Office of Protection Services (OPS) provides a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff, and collections. We are committed to providing the best possible security for both the visitor experience and the safety of the Smithsonian. OPS provides readily available guidance and training on efficient applications of industry best practices. We also engage in strategic partnerships with industry leaders to develop and disseminate the latest information to fulfill our commitment to the Smithsonian and our visitors. Our staff is dedicated to the mission of ensuring that visitors, staff, and collections are safe and secure, and our goal is to provide the appropriate security posture that will ensure that the Smithsonian collections are protected for future generations to enjoy. OPS Law Enforcement and Security Personnel work carefully on a daily basis to balance the safety and security of our visitors and employees with ease of access to the Smithsonian. OPS has a range of staff positions, from entry-level Museum Protection Officers and National Zoo Police Officers, up to leadership positions including the Director, Deputy Director, and Associate Directors. Additional positions include administrative support; supply and procurement; organizational development and training; occupational health and safety; physical and personnel security; & alarm technicians and locksmiths.
