SMMP was established in 2014 by Chris Schroeder and Steve McEwin. Whilst working as consultants within several large companies, they acquired an extensive array of business improvement tools, which they used to address chronic performance problems, and drive innovation within the businesses. When the opportunity presented itself to make these tools available to smaller businesses, they started SMMP.
There are two parts to every business – the processes that occur within the business, and the relationship the business has with its customers.
Many business improvement methodologies address the former – what happens within the business – with an ‘inside-out’ approach that seeks to make the business more functional and efficient. These methodologies focus on increasing quality (Six Sigma, ISO 9001) and reducing waste (Lean Thinking). By addressing internal inefficiencies, businesses can reduce stress, measure the key inputs that truly drive performance, and become more predictable. SMMP have delivered many projects that have made workplaces significantly more efficient and profitable.
Innovation is a catchword that is used by the media, but poorly understood. Innovation is not a ‘dark art’ that happens in isolation; innovation is a process that aims to better address your customer’s needs. Design Thinking is a robust framework for innovating and developing your business, services and products, all from your customer’s perspective. SMMP has a number of tools that assist Managers in building their business from the ‘outside-in’, meaning from the customer’s perspective. This has a simple effect – your customer base will grow as needs are better met, and revenue will increase.
