About The Geographical Society of Finland

The Finnish Geographical Society (est. 1888) publishes Fennia - International Journal of Geography (fennia.journal.fi), the domestic Geographical Journal, Terra (terra.journal.fi) and the online platform Versus (www.versuslehti.fi), as well as the Atlas of Finland. As a scientific publisher, we are also members of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and the Finnish Association for Scholarly Publishing. As an s organization, we are also part of the National Committee for Geography and the Association of Geographical Societies in Europe, EuGeo. The society is the supporting organization for the Geography Days. The annual geography conference is held alternately in Turku, Helsinki, Vaasa, Oulu, Tampere and Joensuu. The Society organizes the Palmén-colloquium on selected Fridays. The society has around 500 members who represent different areas of geographical research, teaching and societal interaction, from physical geography to human geography. The interests of the Society and geographers include natural processes, sustainability, mapping, climate change, inequality, regional planning, cultures, pedagogy, youth, geoinformatics, identities, geopolitics, borders, geographies of water, biogeography and many other themes that help to understand how the world around us is experienced, described and is mapped and especially how the interdependent, relations worlds work. Geographers are very networked, and you can find us in very surprising places. Cover image Loistot-Fyrar Atlas of Finland second edition 1910.
